Millennium Development Goals

We have the power, and the plan to cut world poverty by half in our generation:

The Millennium Development Goals are the most broadly supported, comprehensive, and specific poverty reduction targets the world has ever established. In 2000, the largest gathering of world leaders in history adopted the UN Millennium Declaration, committing their nations to a new global partnership to reduce poverty, improve health, and promote peace, human rights, gender equality, and environmental sustainability.

2007 marks the half way point to the 2015 target… but many countries are drastically off course with their promises… it’s not too late to get back on course.

How will the world look in 2015 if the Goals are achieved…?
More than half a billion people will be lifted from extreme poverty. 30 million children will live to celebrate their fifth birthday.

The 8 Millennium Development Goals Are:

  1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  2. Achieve universal primary education
  3. Promote gender equality and empower women
  4. Reduce child mortality
  5. Improve maternal health
  6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
  7. Ensure environmental sustainability
  8. Develop a global partnership for development
